Breakfast. It was pretty chilly this morning. Grateful to have packed long underwear and down puffies. A couple of days ago we thought maybe they were too much!

The most beautiful day today. Started with a very steep hill (walk) right out of camp. To those that know..think climb out of Elkhorn Hot Springs but straight up, no curves! Anyway, once we were on top it was like rolly, rolly small hills with parkway on either side for miles. Bit of headwind but not nearly as difficult as yesterday. We started near 9am and had almost zero cars until about 11am.

Looking back after we walked up the steep climb. You can’t see it…because it drops off so steeply
Live Oak shade
The parkway. Big game hunting ranches on either side of the road. And…a few cattle ranches. Mostly agritourism (game hunting)

When we intersected with another highway we came upon our Coast to Coast group from Day 1. They have a very high end lunch stop! Willing to share snacks and water….that’s nice. We rode in amongst these riders the rest of the day.

The “CREW”!! For my “Montana Road Tour” “CGY” friends…. we love the crew!! Imagine a “52 day crew”?? That’s what I would call family😊
Every place has a grand entry. This one is humorous
Another grand entrance. Looks like a Roman aqueduct

The Guadalupe River is absolutely a beautiful Texas summer getaway place. We followed the river several miles. There were simple cabins and very elaborate homes and properties as well. If you own something here you should like to fish and kayak along the lazy river. Quiet now but I bet in the summer it’s hopping. The closest community is called Hunt, TX.

The water in Texas rivers in hill country is so clear because of all the limestone cliffs
This boot fence line went on both sides of the road for quite a ways

  1. I follow along on Google Maps. Texas Hill country is more exotic than I thought, especially in the flora department. Beautiful landscape photos. I have to wonder if Hunt is named after the Hunts, a wealthy Texas oil family. The Hunts own giant ranches in Wyoming and one of them owns the Kansas City Chiefs. It looks like you are camping very near Stonehenge II. After the funny photo of Jim in front of the Worlds End clearly saying “I told you it was coming”, you might want to get a photo of Jim in front of Stonehenge II to give his end of the world statement some credibility. Good stuff.
