Day 5. 39 mi 4:08 hr. 1587 climb 9.5 avg speed. Ingram to Fredericksburg, Tx

We had a fabulous ride today. Short and easy. The morning started a wee bit cold. Spent the early hours of the morning searching for more layers inside the sleeping bag! Our campsite was “primitive” which means the toilets/showers were 1/2 mile away on a very rough gravel road. We packed up early and headed to the bathrooms to get ready. Breakfast was going to be in town…Kerrville. About 5 miles down the road. Main Street…Hill Country Cafe. Perfect southern breakfast options. Grits and biscuits and butter

Our ride from Kerrville was on backcountry ranch roads. One steep long climb (walk) and then just rolling road for miles with cattle guards and literally no cars for 20+ miles. Winds were calm or at our back. We were in Texas heaven. Wish it wasn’t so dry.

Texans are quite proud of their ranches and properties. I talked about the gated entrances but they are also very proud of their Lonestar Flag and stars. Actually, I wish Montana had a simple flag that makes a statement. (Like Wyoming)

The country road we travelled on was often called Moore Ranch road. There were some very interesting old homes, hotels and even a church. Our local Uber driver Vicky told us the ranches were so big and had so many hired hands that they often had their own hotels and churches for their hands! Wow!!

The small town of Fredericksburg is a tourist haven in hill country. It has a long Main St with interesting businesses, German restaurants, music, a bachelorette party destination. Great architecture. It would be fun to spend another day but we’ve got places to go. Camped at the Lady Bird Johnson city RV park. Great showers…simple pleasures. Primitive camping but the bathroom is really close! $10/tent. Cheap. Our neighbor tent guy literally lives in his truck. It’s like a hoarders house. And directly across from him is a gigantic gGreyhound bus size RV and then there’s us…on bicycles. Got to love that we’re all here together in this city park. Took an Uber into town for laundry and dinner. Life is good my friends😊

Last… but not least a shoutout: Happy Birthday Jeanne!!! It’s her 70th birthday and she’s a Cinnicrew Original. We toasted a beer to you tonight! We love you🥰
