Day 6. 44 mi. 4:06 hrs. 1948 elev. 10.8 mph!
We left Fredericksburg Lady Bird Johnson Park and rode back country roads to Johnson City. Childhood home of LBJ. For a change we had our first tailwinds, except the last 2 miles. I’ll forget about those 2 miles.
Angry issues: 1. When we left camp Jim was off like a rocket. He crossed a major street ahead of us and I lost track of him when I finally was able to cross. At the next corner I couldn’t see him in any direction. He got a piece of my mind when I called for directions! First fight😱
2. As I’ve said before the Texas drivers are so courteous to us as they pass by. Usually they take the other lane completely. Today we encountered our first impatient, angry driver just on the edge of town. He kept honking at us as Curt was riding the white line (some call it the “fog” line) and I was on the almost non-existent shoulder. I was really wondering what he expected us to do! As he eventually was able to pass us, he threw us the universal middle finger. Angry man. About 1/2 mi later I saw him cued up in the landfill line. I loved that he had to wait in a long Saturday line! Karma
Today we finally came upon some roadside bluebonnets, prickle poppies, Indian paintbrush and firestar flowers. The bluebonnets were prolific for awhile. I’ll repeat it is very, very dry this spring.

Curt was running low on water today with no possibilities in sight. Eventually he used his water filter in a nice little creek called Spring Creek. I failed to get a photo. It was delicious. All was good for the next 10 miles to the finish.

Johnson City is a pretty small town but it sure has a busy traffic highway going through it. There’s a historic monument to President Johnson. We took a tour of the history museum. Met the very nice ranger crew. They weren’t too busy this afternoon. 2 had worked in YNP so we chatted a bit about “the park” and grizzlies. The younger woman is a student at MSUB Billings. We’re camping at the Roadrunner RV Park. Usual primitive tent camp tucked in amongst many RVs. Happens to be a group of Airstreams gathered for the weekend. Ok

Tomorrow we ride into Austin, TX where we spend 2 nights. Well he taking backroads into the city. Should be an interesting ride day. 45 miles. We have a layover day Monday. Looking forward to a rest day. We’re staying at an AirBnB on the east side. Can’t wait to visit Austin!
