Whole lot of nothing going on…

Day 24. 4/29/22 52 mi. AIS 5:20. 1216 elev. 10mph

Blackwater River State Park to De Funiak Springs, FL.

Things that might keep you awake at night. So we always go to bed at about sunset. Reading and/or blogging then it’s dark and goodnight. The State Park had nice campsites with some vegetation barriers between sites for nice privacy. So the first thing I notice before falling asleep is the RV next to us has a band of outdoor lights along it’s top edge. The people were sitting outside so I didn’t pay too close attention. I woke up about 11:00pm to pee and those bright lights were aglow. Really? Why would someone leave their outdoor lights on in the campground? You have a I toilet inside your RV, so you don’t need to find the path to the campground bathrooms. Are you afraid of the dark??…then why are you camping? These are the irritated thoughts I have in the night. Jim said the lights went off eventually on the camper several hours later. So here’s some common State Park/Forest Service type camper courtesy….turn your outdoor lights off during “quiet hours”….especially if anywhere near your sight there are people sleeping in tents. Please and Thank You😊

Spotlight in the night
Good morning from my tent

Easy riding start. Not in a big hurry because we have a short ride today. The start was simple backroads. We did have some challenging climbs and descents today, crossing the Blackwater River. Along this ride we came across another beautiful Live Oak tree. This one had a tree swing calling my name. Of course I had to go sit in it. Oops…trespassing 😱. What a splendid tree someone owns.

Pretty field in the morning light
Magnificent tree with swing
No trespassing…oops😜

After about 9 miles we turned onto Hwy 90. This highway will be a major part of our ride to Tallahassee and beyond. Highway 90 is designated a USBR (bicycle route). So the shoulder has been good. The traffic is a pretty constant stream of cars, pickups, trucks and a few semis. Noisy and looking back frequently. We rode along with a railroad track and big grassy barrow pit on one side and big barrow pit on the other. Zooming traffic in between. Nothing to exciting to photograph. Time to takeout the earbuds and checkout Moth Radio Hour that my sister-in-law Linda told me about. Perfect road entertainment. Short stories, some funny, some sad…mostly a little of both! Made the day pass happier.

Nice shoulder…perfect rumble strip size and location

Lunch at the Truck Stop. Sometimes it is very hard to avoid the fast food options. Right on the route was a big Love’s truck stop. They are usually really large, clean and have food options. Today was Subway sandwich. Watching the people flow in and out is interesting…and of course we are interesting too!

Rolling to DeFuniak Springs. The fast and furious highway came right into town and the shoulder dropped like a bad habit. We got squeezed out so we took a side road option. Jim and I texted Curt we were off the busy street and he came over to meet us. He crossed a RR Xing, slowed…looked right and left and turned to meet us up one block. No sooner did he turn then a policeman hit a quick siren and pulled Curt over. Stern warning to obey car traffic laws and stop at the stop signs. Be careful in DeFuniak, they are watching!

Good timing. We made it to the motel before the thunder clap and downpour started. First downpour of our trip.

Motel night for us and our traveling Scot, Sandy. We have holed up the last 3 nights at the same stops. He’s good company and we chat and laugh and share beers. I expect we will meet up down the road again either before or at St Augustine!

The beer that is most prevalent in the Southern states.
Cheers Sandy from Scotland!
