Day 28. 5/3/22. 53 mi. AIS 4:31, 1397 elev. 11.7 mph

Tallahassee to Madison, FL

Beth and Joe took such good care of us. They loaned us their extra car to get around Tallahassee and run our errands. It felt weird to be in a car, especially driving, according to Jim. At first he had a hard time accelerating to 45 mph. Took several blocks ..haha

We ate lunch at Ted’s Montana Grill. It’s a small chain..there’s one in Bozeman, MT. It was very good, I might have to have a steak at the Bozeman location someday. An important errand was to pick up a simple, big cloth laundry bag to use as luggage for our trip home. We can fit at least 3 panniers in one bag for checked luggage. Walmart delivers for 3.99!

Team Joe and Beth made us a delicious baked spaghetti and salad dinner. We brought the sweet potato pie and ice cream. Through the cooking and dining process we had great conversations! We all got along splendidly, similar life experiences and politics. Because we were all chatting so much, I failed to take a photo of our hosts. (Very, very sorry) Disappointed in myself. So photos of their nice home will have to suffice.

Beth and Joe’s lovely home. Huge yard. Waiting for their college son Gus to come home and mow all that grass🤣

Joe with Punch. Punch is 1 yr old. He works with him for Field Competitions. He has a yellow lab named Lincoln who’s a retired champion.

From what little section of the city I saw, it’s a nice community. There’s 2 Universities, Florida A&M and Florida State (I think). I didn’t see any straight roads (no German type grid city). Beautiful trees and homes in the neighborhoods we rode. We were quickly out of the city this morning. Country roads for a few miles, then back on good, old Hwy 90. Farming countryside with a few small towns. Stopped for an espresso coffee in a cute little town called Monticello.

I saw this farmhouse. I was curious if it’s the owners house or the hired hand. I like the big porch on all sides

Short day into Madison, FL. Arrived a little before checkin at 2pm. Stopped at Grumpy’s Diner for a coke/ice tea. Everyone wanted to know a little about our ride. Met the owner, Jessica, and she mentioned her cafe is going to air on “Restaurant Impossible” in a few weeks. We got to hear her side of the whole tv show. It was nicely decorated. Sorry to say that we didn’t try the food but I bet it’s good! She calls her husband Grumpy! Btw..Sandy (the Scottish piper) is back weaving around us today!

Unity B & B. This is our accommodation for the afternoon and evening. Lovely old home run by Linda. I guess on weekends she’s running a Caribbean restaurant. The menu looked good…but it’s Tuesday. We’ll have to settle for breakfast tomorrow. Our room is large with a king sized bed and bathroom ($106.00). Comfy, comfy, comfy😊
