Day 29. 5/4/22. 49 miles, 4:17 AIS, 879 ft elev., 11.4 mph

Madison to White Springs, FL. Stephen Foster Cultural Center State Park

Our bed snd breakfast host made us a delicious breakfast. Simple and good. She made THEE most delicious banana bread with honey butter spread! So later than usual start but not many miles to go today.

Spanish moss on Live Oaks is beautiful

Cue the song by Ray Charles… Way down along the Suwannee River. I tried to download it but too challenging for the campground wifi.

Stephen Foster wrote so many songs that I knew growing up. We are camped at a State Park in his memory, but the museum is not open. He wasn’t from the south but he sure liked to write songs about it. However, Ray Charles was from Greenville , FL. Without knowing it we had lunch in his hometown park with a bronze statue honoring him. Today, our campground park is on the Suwannee River. We crossed it twice today. Another American folklore song I learned as a child.

This takes care of today. No fly on the tent in Florida. Too humid. It means you wake up to a damp sleeping bag but it dries out quickly while packing up and eating breakfast. Moderate 60 mile day tomorrow (Thursday) before our last, long day (75 miles Friday). Closing in on the finish line! Saturday we have a short ride into St Augustine.
