Sag driver…thriller highways
I (Suzy) was the volunteer sag driver today. All the riders left the townhouse rental at 9am. Back over the Missouri River to reconnect with the Katy Trail. No mishaps on the return route. When I passed them they were all headed down the “dicey” sandy trail back onto the Katy.
Jim had given me some heads up about the back country roads between these little railroad station towns. But…wow! Narrow, winding, steep ups with sharp bends, roller coaster type hilltops with curving steep downhills. I’ve never driven or been on any road quite like these. Little farms along the way in the hills and dales and as I got closer to the town of Augusta….farms and vineyards!
Foggy morning…

Flower gardens…
Everyone described today’s ride as beautiful. The weather temps were in the 60’s to start and low 70’s in the afternoon. The trail followed the river some of the way and then farms. One house along the way had wildflowers all along the trail. An unusual and very pleasant experience.

Barns and buildings…

Grain Elevators and silos….
Grain elevators have dotted the landscape since we started. They always catch your eye. Some have murals on them.

Pastoral scenery…
So much of today’s ride had neat, clean, tidy farmhouses. The colors are changing in the hillsides and in the crops.

Things I See…
You never know what unusual or odd things will catch your attention. Here’s a few today…

Augusta and Washington…
Our destination today was Augusta Missouri. It is basically the Katy Trail, a bike shop, numerous bed and breakfast inns and at least 7-10 wineries in the area.

essentially the whole house.

It’s Tuesday and all the restaurants in Augusta are closed. Luckily we have the sag van to drive to the town of Washington…13 miles away. Washington seems to be a small happening town of about 14,000 people. They have developed their waterfront with restaurants and rooftop patios. I met 2 women on the trail and they gave me a couple of dinner recommendations. Turned out to be good advice!

Sarah and Paul did anyway 🤣

It was all delicious
Tomorrow…
Two riding days remaining. Tomorrow we ride to St Charles. We will stay there two nights. The weather looks terrific again. How lucky are we??? Everyone still likes each other. Sarah is feeling better and Katy is fine as well. Paul continues to entertain us with his stories and comments. Margie always brings the laughter, Jim keeps up with all of us Lemire’s and our idiosyncrasies….and I write the blog. Photos today were courtesy of everyone who was on their bikes.
Speaking of bikes…Katy managed quite well on my slightly too short for her bicycle!
