Saumico WI to Peshtigo WI
Stats: 38 miles. AIS: 3:39 m, 10.5 mph, Elev: 236 ft.
Have a nice relaxed breakfast at Erin & Ryan’s this morning. It was back to work Monday for them. Erin left really early so we said goodbye last night and Ryan was up and out as we were having our breakfast and coffee.
We were saddled up and on the road at 9:30am. We took a road called Lakeshore View Dr for the first several miles. After that we were on County roads (lettered S and Y) all the way to Peshtigo.

It was really flat all day but we had a headwind-crosswind all the way. Jim said it was about 12mph with a few bigger gusts. At times we were more protected by the trees. Temps were mid 60’s so comfortable when we were moving. A little chilly when we stopped because of the wind. It was also partly sunny so when the sun hit it felt warmer.

perfect country scene

There were many times today we could see water in the bay in between the lake front cottages or through the trees. The cottages and homes along the shoreline were not gigantic or super elaborate. As a matter of fact most of them were pretty basic and not very new. They all had big lawns and nice properties. Most were very well kept up. It seemed like most of them were seasonal.. not a lot of year round occupants.
In the little towns along the way we stopped at a few of their boat put-in’s that were in the rivers close to the outlets to Green Bay. Nice little parks… rest stops for us! We had our lunch at one of the bigger boat ramps. Lots of sailboats stored there.

peanut butter, banana and gorp wrap
It’s been awhile since we’ve ridden about 40 miles, so we weren’t disappointed when we arrived in Peshtigo about 2:30pm. Nice and early. We did notice it felt warmer once the road left the bay front. We are camped at a city park campground. Nice park near the school and football field. Busy children’s playground and folf course near the tent camping. We are the only tent tonight. The campground had nice hot showers …25c for ? minutes. Mine lasted quite long on 1 quarter… Jim needed two! It’s common for us to wash our bike clothes while we are showering …I guess he just took a little longer. They always put tents in the back in the trees, so we had to search for a sunny place to dry our clothes. We also had to poach electricity from the RV camping spots to charge our electronics. Those places were pretty easy to find tonight.

Interesting story. 36 years ago Jim and I had just moved to Milwaukee. We were very interested in canoe racing and there was a race we drove up to watch in Menominee. While we were there we spotted a brand new 18’ Wenonah Kevlar River trippjng canoe for sale in Peshtigo. So we bought it! That’s all I knew about Peshtigo. Still have that wonderful canoe.

Dinner… pub hamburger at a downtown place. Just the locals at the bar but the bartender was friendly in a funny sort of way. First he stepped outside the bar to tell us we didn’t need to lock our bikes in Peshtigo… or at his bar anyway! Simple no frills food tonight… and a good beer from the brewery our friend Ryan works for!

Tomorrow we ride to a county campground near Cedar River. Weather looks to be similar to today. Not sure about the wind factor yet.
