Chores of the day: laundry…done. Groceries… done. Bicycle lube… done.

Time for a quick tour of Ludington. Even though the sun was shining the wind coming out of west was really chilly. We adventured to the downtown area but wore my down puffy jacket and was quite comfortable. It’s now 3pm and the high is 61!

We walked around the downtown area and out to the shoreline. They have a beautiful shoreline beach with lots of playgrounds and volleyball and two long breakwater piers with lighthouses you can walk out. There’s also a big marina. This is the harbor the famous SS Badger Ferry comes into.

We walked some of the backstreets off the Main Street. Patronized a local brewery before heading back to our motel on the east end of town near all the fast food places and Walmart etc.

We plan to just hang out the rest of the afternoon… watch the US Open men’s tennis (Sinner/Alcarez) and find a place to eat within an easy walk.

Tomorrow we ride south to Montague…about 45 miles. (Pronounced: Mont-a-gyew). I’m pretty sure I have slaughtered so many pronunciations of some towns.

Postcard left at our motel room.. the ferry that is coal powered
Interesting mural downtown on a wall that was not flat
Other angle of same mural
Thought this man cutout for entering this home construction was funny
We saw this same car over a week ago when we were in the UP on Hwy 2. We were at a scenic overlook just beyond Naubinway on Day 6. I tried to take a photo but he drove away before I could. I think he’s looking for my rubber ducky I’ve now named “Mich”. What’s the odds of seeing this vehicle twice so far from each other???
“Mich” the mascot of this trip. He’s listing a bit to the port side because of the wind from the west as we’ve been heading south 🤣

Michigan Mitten and other expressions I’m learning…

As I said a week ago lower Michigan is described by using your hand and it’s called the “mitten”

Edge of the Mitt… all the towns on the west side (Lake Michigan)

Middle of the Mitt… what I mistakenly called the palm yesterday.

The thumb… anything on the east side or Lake Huron side

Lake Huron… the sunrise coast

Lake Michigan… the sunset coast

Up north… northern Michigan but NOT the Upper Peninsula (UP)

UP. … they’re outside the mitt… a special place

Yooper… what you call someone that lives in the UP

Upper hand… the Upper Peninsula

The pinkie… Leelanau peninsula. Anything west and north of Traverse City

Michigander… anyone from Michigan

Fudgie: tourist visiting Michigan where they sell ALOT of fudge

Mackinac Bridge walkers: 2025. 33,000!!
