Leisurely “sleep in” means you still wake up at 6:30-7am but you don’t have to get up and start packing. You can lay around awhile…. feels good. Not on the move.
This hotel was busy with middle school age girls softball teams and parents. That made the hotel breakfast busy this morning too! Usually it’s been pretty quiet. After breakfast we moved into the huge lobby where they had a nice big long table we could spread out maps and papers and dial in the 9-10 days of the trip we have remaining.
We met some folks at that big table that had recently been to Frankenmuth and raved about it. Apparently it’s a Bavarian styled town… similar to Leavenworth WA. So we decide to adjust our route to include a night stop in Frankenmuth! More investigation and we found a nice campground on the edge of town… perfect! We’ve got the weeks route planned and actually all the way back to Green Bay. Looks like 10 more days on bicycles.
So many people at the hotel were curious what we were so diligently planning. Lots of encouragement of course.

After conquering the route we took a 2 mile bike ride over the bridge to the Kroger grocery store. This gave us a chance to see some neighborhoods on the west side of Bay City. Found a couple of breweries on the way back and that was the afternoon. We managed to find a couple of good restaurants for dinner last night and tonight… one was Japanese and the other had a nice variety of non-pub food.
It can’t help but be mentioned that as far as we could tell by bicycling around the uptown and west side and bridges that this is not a very bicycle friendly town. Google maps could not route us onto any bike lanes. There is (supposedly) a bike trail we will take out of town tomorrow, so maybe I will reverse my opinion.
So many old beautiful buildings in our uptown area..

Things I See…
Jim spotted this I CLOSED WOLSKI’S sticker in one of the brewery bathrooms today. This sticker has been a notorious part of our life since we first met in Miles City Montana. We had good friends that revered this dive bar in their hometown Milwaukee. Then we lived in Milwaukee so we finally understood Milwaukee tavern culture. Years later we took our kids to Milwaukee and WOLSKI’S…but we didn’t close it🤣

Tomorrow starts Week 4 of Great Lakes Michigan. So far, so good! Weather looks to continue to be warm and mild evenings with no rain for about 5 days. We look forward to seeing more of Michigan.
