Day 30. Closing the Loop

9/23/2024. Tuesday

Denmark to Suamico WI

Stats: Miles: 36 AIS: 3:16 Speed: 11mph Elev. 390 ft

Today was great! The weather was just right… the roads were kind… the scenery was Wisconsin iconic…the trails in to Green Bay were smooth and paved. My whiny day yesterday turned right around and we finished with big smiles on our faces..nice and easy 😊

We began riding on back country roads… iconic Wisconsin farm after farm. Red barns, 2-3 silos, white farm houses, corn fields and cows. Farms advertise they sell to Land O Lakes! I know I buy their butter for sure. Butter cows!

We were about halfway in our ride today when we came to the highest point. We didn’t realize we were way above the Green Bay because our ride today was flat from Denmark to this new spot…Ledgeview. At first we questioned the name and quickly realized because of the multiple radio towers and cell towers we were at the top of something! Then there it was…a serious drop/ledge looking north to Green Bay and slightly northeast toward Door County peninsula. We were flying downhill at this point so there wasn’t much time to really see the view… just quick glimpses. When we reached the bottom we both said we were really glad we didn’t have to climb up that hill! It had a very steep incline… maybe in 2 parts… with a tiny reprieve. Local cyclists told us they call that climb “Cement Plant Hill”.

Now we were in the outer Green Bay urban countryside. The homes outnumbered the farms pretty quickly .

This house had oversized Halloween creatures.

Soon we entered the Urban trail system. The Fox River trail was really nice. It’s Tuesday morning so the trail use is pretty light. We moved along quickly. The trail brought us all the way into Green Bay on the east side of the river.

We crossed the bridge into the west side of Downtown Green Bay… I don’t know what they call this area but maybe Titletown?

After we navigated through Green Bay it was about 5 miles to Suamico… our finish line. We made it to the end with no complaints and no issues! A good trip.

Finished!!

We arrived to Erin and Ryan’s while they were busy working and immediately began loading the bikes and panniers into the van.

With the gear all packed for the drive home, we spent the rest of the afternoon on this beautiful day enjoying the lake scene from their back deck with a beer.

When Ryan got home from work we went for a delicious pizza in Green Bay where Erin met us after finishing up work. We had such a nice time with our friends and really appreciate their generosity of home and a parking place! Until we meet again😊

Lovely place to spend a warm fall afternoon

30 days on a bicycle trip. Thanks for following our ride. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Stay tuned..I’ll be making one more post sometime in the next couple of days while we travel home. The Great Lakes, Michigan tour summary. All the final stats and thoughts about the whole trip.
