Easy plane flight to San Diego. Mia (Curt’s wife) gave us a early early ride to the airport. We were at the airport 4:20 (6:10am flight), no line. With our 3 large bike boxes the Delta desk crew had some work to do! First time they had bikes (or so it seemed). They had to look up all the rules after we told them they now are considered baggage, like skis or golf clubs. Needless to say the line began forming behind us! TSA were shaking their heads because they had to open and inspect them.
The bikes arrived safely. Jim and I had some pretty heavy duty boxes for e-bikes. Curt’s was more used looking. They handled Curts gingerly and seemed to rough ours up a bit more..some pretty good gashes and ripped off handle holders. But nevertheless inside all was good.

Assembly at the hotel, outside on a nice patio deck. 64 degrees. It took the guys 3-4 hrs to get them all put together. Met a really nice hotel worker named Mercedes. She was very curious about our adventure. (Wish I thought to take a picture of her). Meanwhile I took a walk to the grocery store for lunch and fruit. After my bike was assembled I took a ride to Dicks Sporting Goods for jetboil fuel. My introduction to riding in heavy traffic but California has bike lanes on all the major roads.

Walked to the Stone Brewery for dinner. Met a super nice security guard Jason while waiting for an Uber home. He wants to move to Montana (he’s seen photos)!
Sunday we ride. Rain in the forecast😜. Guess we better get used to weather
Suzy, Cathy and I just made the journey via our motor home. You are in for a treat with fabulous vistas and good food along the way. Your weather should be comfortable for the most part. I will be checking your blog periodically so keep posting! Thanks for sharing your adventure!

I thought you had a pole perhaps with a flag on the back of Jim’s bike but I think it’s a pole on the beach. Bet you sleep well tonight
