All uphill

26.8 mi. 3926 elevation gain. AIS (ass in seat) 4:07

Predominantly all climbing today. Weather was cooler, not sunny. Good for climbing really. Occasionally raining but we lucked out and were eating lunch at Albertsons so we missed most of it. It was a rain jacket off and on type of day. Off for climbing and on for any small descents.

Seemed like it was us and the garbage trucks on the backroads today. Traffic was light and easy. Good shoulders all the way.

Dave the route master and sag vehicle giving Curt the Possibilities of other routes

Met a guy named Dave at lunch. He was a very experienced local rider. He was a wealth of information regarding the ACA route we are on and suggested some reroutes because of heavy RV traffic on hwys with poor shoulders. We are leaning toward taking his suggestions on a different route to Phoenix. A little more time on I 8. Truly interstates have the safest shoulders and the most noise😊

Might mention that Dave was a lifesaver for Curt. Curt’s recumbent is very difficult when it comes to so much climbing. Dave gave Curt a leap forward (via pickup) to our Pine Valley destination. We have one more day of climbing before we enter desert/imperial valley farming terrain

Alpine CA. A little bit of home at Janet’s. Note the Grizzly bear
Besides the bicycle…Walter Whites Bounder meth lab in the background.

Staying in a funny little hotel in a small town of Pine Valley. Doing laundry and the front desk says it closes at 8pm. The sign on the door says closes at 10pm. Old man who works here says it closes at 9🤣🤣. 9 is perfect

  1. Dave’s good info, Janets Montana with grizzly and a great looking burger and fries but is $12.50 the going price of such a burger across the country? Inflation huh?

  2. your climb sounds arduous but how fortunate to have met up with helpful Dave! Jim’s burger is as tall as the mountain you all climbed Well deserved. The pictures are so artsy. PedaL on Peggy
