Day 7. 66 mi. Ais 6:10

Quartzite to Aguila

Ride…eat…sleep repeat. Lots of eat and ride

My body is not quite ready for multiple days of 60 mi yet. It seems my butt hurts or my carpal tunnel on my right hand is numbing or the knife is in my shoulder blade. It alternates but mostly it’s the saddle.

However, the scenery was green and gorgeous. The roadside wildflowers were popping up. Stopped for pictures of several. Arizona poppies were my favorite.

Arizona poppies

We had good road shoulders today. At one point if was wide but rough. I had a lot of time to think about shoulders today. This is how I see it from my bicycle perspective. 3 kinds of shoulders: 1. The white line only. 2. Wide but full of gravel or garbage or weeds making it unrideable. 3. Wide but rough rough, broken and butt jarring making it unrideable. There could be more when it comes to rumble strips but they are the narrow ones here so I’m not going to complain. My point is, to drivers, when you wonder why we aren’t riding on the shoulder it’s probably because of point 1 or 2. Just sayin’….

Good shoulder

Stopped at nice little RV park in the town of Hope for water. This ride today was a good cross section of the RV culture in Arizona. If it wasn’t for RV parks some of these towns wouldn’t exist. It’s rather interesting and amazing how big it is!

Hope. High hope
Saguaro (swar-row) cactus
I just liked the Saguaro growing right up the wall

It took many hours to get to this little town called Aguila.. I had called Warmshowers for a place to stay. She couldn’t host us but she sent us to the library where we could get vouchers for meals at the Coyote Cafe! Seriously they gave us 3-$15 meal vouchers. Tiny little town generosity. (Plus you have to contact the right person)

We busted the last 30 miles to get there in time. Little Mexican restaurant with good food. Camping is in the little town park. We have the whole park to ourselves after it was too dark for the local kids to shoot hoops

Dead ass. Feels good to recline
