Recap the ride

1250.4 miles

7 RV park/rec rooms

6 Campgrounds

3 Backyards

1 hostel

2 nights at friends in Phoenix

4 pizza (1 delivery/1 takeout)

3 camp dinners

1 share dinner from ACA riders

9 takeout from restaurant (Covid19-style)

Lots of local eateries for dinner

Lots and lots of pbj sandwiches and an orange for lunch

Plenty of oatmeal and Starbucks Via coffee for breakfasts

New Mexican green Chile

Tex Mex

Pecan encrusted meats

Roadkill: only unusual

1 bobcat

1 armadillo

Live regional animals or other notable items

1 Roadrunner

1 Javelina

Buzzards (hundreds)

2 bicyclist “white bike” memorials (sobering)

1 wiener mobile

Would I do this again? In a heartbeat! So many places to ride. I’d love to ride the Pacific coastline, from Budapest to the Black Sea ( is is Trail #6?) and take a week or two to ride Quebec and Nova Scotia. And of course, finish the Southern Tier!

Disassembly to fit in shortbed of pickup
Strapping bikes down
Gear in back seat
Somewhere near Lubbock TX. So happy this wasn’t on our route. Windmills and pump jacks as far as you can see. Truly as flat as a pancake and the wind is blowing hard.
You get the idea

  4. Suzy, I enjoyed reading all of your posts and am sorry you had to cut your trip short. Now that you are home you should write an article for Adventure Cycling magazine. I sure other cyclists would like to read about biking in the time of COVID.
