Let’s roll…Montreal to St Jerome.

Day 1. 8/18/23. 42.5 mi. AIS: 4:21. (Ass in Saddle). 839 ft elev. 10mph

Launch time… the rain jackets lasted about 10 minutes

It was raining in the early morning so we weren’t in a big hurry to depart. Forecast was to improve as the day progressed. 10am start. Within minutes we were on a nice separate bike path. This lasted a few miles, then it was a zig zag through industrial back streets and roads with bike lanes and bike paths for several miles through the city. Typically I have found riding through cities to be exhausting but Montreal was very pleasant ride. Crossed a couple of rivers heading north. Travelled through some nice suburbs with nice homes. All along those streets were bike lanes. On the busier streets they have a two-way bike line on just one side of the road. I will try to take a picture of that when I return to Montreal in a few days. Pretty simple concept actually. Cars stop for bikes and pedestrians.. they use push button activating lights at all the bike path crossings. I sure love bicycle-centric communities!

When was the last time you saw a Bell public telephone?!!
The first river crossing. Prairies River
Following Route Verte 1. Goes all the way to Ottawa

After about 3 hrs or so we were out of the cities and saw farmland we determined to be Peas and corn. We hooked into the trail P’tit Train du Nord for the last 16 km into St Jerome.

This is the route we will be on for the next 3 days when we pedal south back to Montreal. P’tit Train du Nord
Almost to St Jerome. P’tit Train due Nord trail

We arrived at a campground in St Jerome, set up camp, showered, washed out bike clothes then pedaled to a close by restaurant. Dinner was good.

At the campground we were hearing GhostBusters music and Addams family. Seemed strange until we heard it was Halloween. Must be a campground thing! This campground has cabins, permanent mobile home type cabins, rvs, and tents. It’s rather deluxe with a small lake, restaurant and game room. Kind of feels like summer camp. Tons of kiddos.

Headed to the Halloween Party Turned into a parade with kids running along and several floats.
