Perhaps many days on our ride will be lakes and rivers but todays ride along the trail was in the Laurentian Mountains! It is THE summer and winter mecca for Montreal-ites and Q-Citians. There are many, many cabins on the lakes, small local ski areas, rivers for canoeing and kayaking, power boats on the lakes, lake fishing. Everything you could want to get out of the city of 4 million and only a couple hours away ( by car of course)! It’s beautiful. I can’t help but think how gorgeous it will be in the fall with all the maples and birch trees and others that I don’t even know.
Little beaver damBeautiful upcreek effect of the beaver damAlong the route were several rest stop shelters. Usually there was a pit toilet a little ways beyond the shelter. They’re very cute, made to look like a cabooseOur lunch stop was in the town of Nominingue. They have converted the old train stations to visitor centers. This one had history of surnames in the area. I looked for Lemire but it was not listed in this area. Beautiful park area along this rest stop. All the main trail stops have bicycle pumps and repair attachments. Bathrooms, picnic tables and kids playgrounds. Nearby in the communities are lunch cafes, bed and breakfasts and sometimes motels and campgrounds. Bicyclists lunch today. Tasty😊Lake view just after our lunch stop. It is Sunday so people are outside playingRiviera Rouge. The Red River. We will be following this for a few days I believe. The sand bars look so nice. I was told it is a Class II River. Looks fun to canoe to me. Strange motel entry along the trail. Just advertising to cyclists. We did not stay there 😜Campground along the route. We did not camp there either😜Arrived in our destination. LaBelle. This station had a restaurant. Beckoned us in for a beer and frites ( fries) post ride. Also a museum on the end of itDisplay at the La Belle train station. The cart to load the baggage on the trainsOur campground is on Riviera Rouge. Best campground yet! Earlier the sandbar you can see was teeming with people on the beach and kids in the water. This campground has short term RV’s, several tent campers and then the permanent RV’s with their deluxe patios. Super nice place! View of our campground from the town. We were kind of late getting around to dinner tonight and like most places some restaurants and stores close early on Sundays. Restaurants were closed by 6:30 and we just made it to the little market in time (19:00 or 7pm) to buy a Greek pasta salad for dinner! Good enough
Looking forward to tomorrow when we will checkout the famous ski resort Mont Tremblanc and the village below it. We have some climbing to do… 12 km at 3% grade! And btw… we had to hike our bikes back out of that campground this morning too… this time it was a gravel road out of the campground.
