Day 2. 10/3/24. Sedalia to Pilot Grove
28 miles.
Jim was the volunteer SAG driver today. Because he was driver we have no official stats today. It’s his computer I always use for stats.
We had a casual departure from Sedalia today. Mileage was low and we had all day to get there, so we took advantage of the extra time to visit downtown Sedalia in the morning light. An easy ride to visit the Catholic church, the Carnegie Library, the Bothwell Hotel and the Ozark Coffee shop.
The library was absolutely beautiful both inside and outside!

After the morning tour we found our Katy Trail and headed up the trail to Pilot Grove…25 miles away. Today was a much warmer day. Low 90’s. The trail is mostly tree-lined so the shade was cooler.
I was the slowest (easily) today. We had a slight uphill grade, so the e-bikes had their chance to shine! But it certainly wasn’t difficult.
Farmers were busy harvesting their soybean crops. There were a couple of black snakes crossing the trail. It wasn’t very busy with bicycles. We saw about a dozen riders or so. I’m expecting that Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be busier traffic. It is really nice not to have to think about cars or traffic except when crossing roads.
Things I see along the trail…

All over the trail

Arrived in Pilot Grove about 1pm. We had our picnic lunch at the railroad stop and our Bed and Breakfast was right across the street. Handy!
Jerry’s Place. The Katy Junction B&B

Jerry is the chief cook and bottle washer, B&B owner, story teller, dinner chef, breakfast cook, story teller, retired Boonville Police Officer, security guard at the Boonville Casino, Navy veteran, Navy plumber, construction worker, house remodeler, massage-giver and……story teller!
Jerry is a friendly, jokester kind of man and he owns a comfortable B&B. He met us on his front porch and brought glasses of lemonade. We found our rooms, showered and relaxed for a few hours before dinner. He made us a delicious pork tenderloin, scalloped potatoes, green beans and cake and ice cream dessert for $14. (We even got seconds on scalloped potatoes). We’re already looking forward to breakfast and coffee in the morning!

Our bikes are stored in the garage with built-in bicycle racks.

charge the e-bikes!
Tomorrow after breakfast we head to Rocheport MO a distance of 25 miles. About halfway is Boonville. It’s where we will meet the Missouri River. After that the trail will follow the Missouri and be flat all the way to the Mississippi near St Charles.
Holy smoke that is a great looking post ride dinner! I like Jerry already!
Cheers!
