Meeting the “Mighty Mo”…

Day 3. October 4, 2024 Pilot Grove to Rocheport, MO

Stats: 27 mi. AIS: 2:49 min. 9.7mph Elev. 308 ft.

Jerry, the host at our Bed and Breakfast, made us biscuits and gravy and a nice fruit bowl for breakfast this morning. Honestly… it was okay for a couple of us but ran right through a few of us too! The biscuits were good though 😊. He gave us a few more stories before we departed.

Jerry’s last chance to visit with Paul and Jim before we departed.

Katy volunteered to be the SAG today.

We didn’t have far to go today either. We rode about 12 miles to Boonville. Nice little town on the banks of the Missouri River. We were told it would be “rolling hills” (railbed type of rolling) all the way to Boonville. I guess it was…I had to shift a gear every now and then.

It was a quick ride into Boonville. We stopped at the Train Station and the museum about trains, steamboats and trails. There was even a replica of Lewis and Clark’s boat they used to travel up the Missouri.

Once we left Boonville the trail follows the Missouri River for the remainder of our ride. It also will be very flat to slightly downhill along the entire trail. There weren’t alot of trail riders today but many more than we’ve seen the first two days. Closer to some bigger cities like Columbia and Jefferson City. I expect that tomorrow (Saturday) will be busy.

The most spectacular thing we saw was a set of grain silos made from clay tiles.

Shortly after the grain silos we Todd through the only tunnel on the Katy Trail.

After the tunnel we entered the small town of Rocheport MO. It is filled with several Bed & Breakfast accommodations. Ours is right along the trail. This time we are upstairs in a big cedar building with a big dormer room. All the beds are in a row. It’s like a family sleepover!

The “sisters” walked to dinner (1.3mi) to The A Frame Winery and restaurant. It was 1 mile along the Katy Trail and .3 miles up the bluff on a narrow trail to the A Frame overlooking the Missouri River. Pretty sunset walk to dinner. Paul gave us all a ride home (in the dark).

The cutest pictures of my blue eyed sister and brother.

Margie’s eyes matched the blue of her helmet and her Lewis and Clark jersey!
Pauls eyes (he had to open wide)… matched his shirt

Tomorrow we ride to Jefferson City MO. It’s the capital of Missouri. We have about a 38 mile ride tomorrow. Expecting the temps in the high 80’s. The humidity is low (if you’re wondering). Absolutely beautiful weather and beautiful countryside. Couldn’t be happier riding with my family. I’m so lucky!
