Day 4
January 11, 2025
Today we had a 10am shuttle pickup to the Bocawina Rain Forest where we meeting up with our fellow kayakers and the Island Expeditions tour leaders.
It was about an hour drive up toward the Mayan Mountains of Belize. The resort is a lovely campus with cabana rooms, restaurant and outdoor activities. Hiking to waterfalls, zip lining, rappelling waterfalls, mountain biking, bird walks, etc.
We checked into our room which was very clean and smelled of Clorox. This bathroom had a shower with real hot water. Previously the shower water was current air temp I would guess.
We had a nice lunch and took a hike to the closest and easiest waterfall. We had been told the bigger one was pretty steep at the end with ropes to help you climb the steeps but more importantly…very wet and slippery. Visions of hiking in Kauai came to mind. Beautiful but scary!

There are 7 of us on this tour. A couple from Brevard, NC, a couple from Victoria, BC and a solo woman from Vancouver Island, BC. We are all of a comparable age I would say… and I suspect fitness level as well. It goes without saying that the BC contingency has quite a bit of sea kayaking experience. We have some but it’s been several years since we’ve paddled “real” sea kayaks. I’m confident we’ve got the skills😊.
We found out at dinner that our day starts early tomorrow. Breakfast at 6am… depart for Dandriga at 6:30am and then an open boat ride to Glovers Reef. Almost 2 hours on the boat. The weather is supposed to be to be nice so maybe not terribly bumpy boat ride.
