Headed to Glasgow….Scotland!

Day 0

Train from London to Glasgow

July 13, 2025

The London Euston train station

We caught the 8:50am train from London and arrived in Glasgow about 3pm. Sandy and Curt picked us up at the train station. We immediately went to the bicycle shop to pickup our bicycles. They were all ready for us. They look pretty nice with gearing for climbing hills. We also had them put on SPD pedals so we can use our bike shoes that we like. There’s a bicycle rack on the back that is handy for our rear bike bags to carry some gear for the day… like rain gear!

Sandy booked us a Holiday Inn motel outside of Glasgow for the first two nights. He is originally from Glasgow so he knows the area well. He once lived in a small village near here called Carmunnock. He will be staying at a good friends house in that village.

Sandy with the keys to our Bicycle Van for the next 10 days. It’s BIG!!

After we had a dinner and checked in Sandy took us to a “Social Club” in Carmunnock where we were to meet his best friends from the village. The Social Club is an old elementary school that is now a neighborhood bar. This group of friends gathered for a pint (or two) and play some music together.

Carmunnock Social Club

There was a small bar, a couple of big group tables and the TV was playing a big important futbol (soccer) game. The FIFA Club World Cup. Only 2 guys were there watching, so our music didn’t bother them in the least. We had an enjoyable time listening to their music, laughing and chatting. They played and sang Scottish favorites, a couple songs I requested, a little bit of ELO too! Oh… and we drank the local Glasgow beer with a big T… Tennents. We liked it just fine.

I was visiting with Anne and she was telling me her family just visited New York and Quebec (Montreal) with friends from Quebec City. The small world continues because their good Quebec friends are the same family that Sandy linked us up with when we were cycling in Quebec in 2023. We stayed with Aimee and her two darling daughters! That was a fun connection to make.

Have videos of them playing but they never seem to download on my blog page anymore… unfortunately.

I will try but it may be a blank black space. Btw… if a photo does not turn out on the email that you receive… try my website. They usually are visible there. Www.cinnicrew.com

Tomorrow is our first ride day. It’s a “checkout ride” day to make sure our bikes work and get used to them. That means it’s a short day.

  1. Tell Sandy that Dwayne and Esther say hello. I’m not doing that Big Bend. Since then we’ve been to Italy and to Baja Mexico to see the whales. I still have my boot on from the tibialis anterior tear. Yesterday I got to walk in the water! If all goes well I’ll be out of the boot in time to go to Greece with Dwayne for 3 weeks in September. Stay safe and have fun

  2. what a terrific friend you made in Sandy and now you have connected with his friends whose friend in Quebec City had treated you so well. Cycling seems to do that as does skiing ( meeting oh chair lifts or trams). My question is: can you understand them? Not too strong accents I hope.
