Day 1.
July 14, 2025.
About a 10 mile easy flat ride. It was a checkout ride to get our bike saddles the right height and make sure the shifting was working.
The first order of business this morning was for Curt to reassemble his bicycle at the hotel. He just sat down (in his cross-legged style) and the first thing that happened was the seat stay on his breakdown recumbent bicycle snapped off! He noticed it was slightly bent inward and then it snapped right off when he grabbed it. The other one has a hairline crack as well. Looks like we will be going to the Gear Bike Shop in Glasgow to rent him a bicycle as well!

Turns out Sandy knows the owner Joe from his futbol days 20 years ago

We have about an hour drive to catch the ferry to Cumbrae Island on the west coast. It’s a quick ferry trip 15 minutes(?) to the small island.

We followed the road around the edge of the island. There is only one little town called Millport on the island. It has a rugged coastline with lots of little turnouts and picnic stops along the way.

We did stop in Millport for Sandy to show us his childhood summer house and have a little picnic lunch along the shoreline. Nostalgic trip for Sandy.

Finished the simple ride and having fish and chips and Scottish Ales before we head back to the hotel for the night.
My mother, Molly Geddes Randall, has ancestors on the Geddes side from Scotland. The Isle of Sky is mentioned in their heritage. (There is a Geddes village somewhere in Scotland that my parents visited.). My husband and I lived in Glencoe MN for fifty years. In fact we are here now visiting friends. Glencoe Scotland, unfortunately, is the site of a famous massacre. Ugh.
I follow along on all your blogs. Thanks for sharing your adventures. Your Miles City alley neighbor. Barb Randall
