Our tents were so wet this morning… you’d have thought it rained all night. The condensation and dew collided during the night. Our rain fly was soaking wet inside and out! It was chilly last night but not as cold as the previous two nights.
We didn’t realize while setting up our tents that Paul’s tent was point blank under a bright light. He was in the spot light! It didn’t seem to bother him much as his fly was dark green. How quickly we forget to look for those mistakes when setting up our tents. Next time… maybe.
It was a beautiful ride out of town this morning along the lake. Traffic on Hwy 2 was still busy but not nearly as crazy as yesterday. Occasionally there was a break in cars and you could feel the quiet.

I can see Chicago from here!!

Big Hill we had to climb today.

Talking to a couple of locals they told us about a great place just 15 miles up the road… that’s 1.5 hours for me! We did stop to have an early lunch and it was good.

Jim and Paul were map checking and spotted an alternative highway to take to St. Ignace. It was called Worth Rd and it was totally worth it. So quiet and light light traffic. We could actually ride side by side and talk for 10 miles! I didn’t realize until then how much easier it was to ride 15-20 miles without the tension of cars, trucks and noise. My neck and shoulders weren’t killing me the last 10+ miles like the last 4-5 days.
St Ignace is a very tourist driven town at the north end of the 5 mile long Mackinac Bridge. This separated Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. The city is on the tip of both lakes. The famous Mackinac Island is in Lake Huron. We do plan to take a trip to the island on our way to the lower peninsula. More about that on Monday. It’s crazy to me that 3 Great Lakes almost converge at this point. Superior, Michigan and Huron. Sault Ste Marie is only 52 miles north.

The last few miles into town were jnteresting. First there was a big stone outcropping at a campground that had a lookout on top. It caught my eye because the stone towered out of the bluff.

Just before we entered the business district we came across the worst rumble strip arrangement a bicycle could ever experience. Choose the right and it’s a tight wire ride between rumbling and going off the road. Choose left and you ride between the white line or the main road or rumbling. I tend to choose left and even left of the white line. I prefer to force cars to slow down or go around me to the left… cross the center line… at least with one wheel! Fortunately this lasted only about one mile.

We have a motel at the far end of St Ignace. There must be 30 hotel/motels along the shoreline. Also a lot of trinket shops, candy stores, ice cream and most importantly fudge shops! It’s a thing

You pay by the ounce when you’re done.
Limit of 28 oz. by state law.

To finish the night off was a fireworks show. Great view out the motel door.

Tomorrow is task day and poking around the town. Looks like there’s a craft market across the street. I’ll enjoy that!
I like that you wear that bright green or orange so the cars /trucks can’t miss you
