Day 5
6/25/26 Thursday
Looks like another beautiful windless day. Expecting some rain later in the day. We shall see.
Leisurely morning since we are staying put for the day. We have another night in this campground and we intend to bicycle around some trails along the Athabasca River and to Pyramid Lake this morning.
22 miles total. 13 miles to Pyramid lake round trip and 9 miles along the Athabasca River Valley and riding around a couple other lakes. Some road riding and some single track. Very enjoyable routes. Some climbing to Pyramid Lake and then relatively flat on the mountain bike trails along the river and small lakes.
Pyramid Lake and Pyramid mountain.

Behind it is Pyramid Mountain.

Athabasca River running very fast- high water I’m guessing. Starts at the Columbia Icefields and flows into the Mackenzie River drainage at Athabasca Lake fairly close to the Arctic Ocean.

This area is very, very beary, but we never saw one.

We decided to eat out in Jasper for dinner. Help out the recovering economy since the fire. There was one side of town with all new buildings but most of the town on the northside was saved. I liked a few of these historical old buildings.

After dinner we took the excursion on the Jasper SkyTram. It was such a warm, beautiful day it seemed perfect to go to the top and see the view of the area.
Top of Whistlers Mountain above Jasper

Annette Lake on the top right.

but we can meet there if there’s an emergency up here
The oddity of the day… Jumbo carrots. I have never seen those in a grocery store before!

Hey Jim and Suzy! I am finally caught up on your travels. Wow! Sounds like a great trip! 10 weeks! I am jealous. Love all the beautiful photos and stories. Funny to see a muster station on top of the mountain…..that is always the first line of business when on a cruise ship. Ha!Ha!
Love following along……be safe and enjoy! You are only missing snow storms and flooding in Montana.
