Watchin’ some fishin’

Day 40

7/30/26 Thursday

Mosquito count: At sunset they were buzzing.

Moose count. 1

Chores. We cleaned the interior of the van. It hasn’t been washed inside since our stop in Whitehorse YT day 17. We did wash the exterior a couple of days ago. As soon as we did it rained… of course. Now it’s all clean and tidy until we get a chance to clean again… who knows when.

Out and about Soldotna. We went with Rosalie and Casey and visited the Kenai Brewery and then the Bridge Lounge at the Kenai River Lodge bar with an outdoor deck overlooking the river. The lodge guests have exclusive river access below to fish. They’re all set up with the cleaning station and walking platform along the bank. So we sat on the bar deck and watched them fishing. We saw one young woman catch a couple while we were there. Another guy caught two in a row but he put both back because he didn’t catch them in the mouth. Technically it’s illegal to keep them if you snag them in the body. But I wonder how many people follow that law??

My daughter Rosalie..
check out her cute nails!

Fishing below us
Not too crowded at the lodge fishing area.

We stopped to checkout this little shopping area that used railroad cars. One was a coffee shop and another was a restaurant.

Dinner tonight. Tacos. Marianne put together a terrific taco toppings dinner… both beef and halibut. Colorful and tasty.

Marianne giving the corn taco shells
a little crisping
A colorful array of taco toppings. Delish!

Sunset on the flats. Caught the sunset tonight off the highway looking over the flats on the Kenai. What a beautiful place! So many eagles, moose, caribou and salmon (trout too)!!

Redoubt Volcano

The sunset was a fitting send off to our week in Kenai. What a wonderful place… we feel pretty lucky our daughter is part of this family that calls this home. They were so kind and gracious to us for a week…thank you Swain’s for showing us “your Alaska”🥰!
